Locations: Wheeler tent, Dartmouth Green, Alumni Hall
Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights. It celebrates the triumph of good, thoughtful (bright) thinking over bad thinking, and encourages everyone to approach life with an eye toward "How can I do good through my life?"
Diwali at Dartmouth brings the students, faculty, alumni, and members of the upper valley together as a community to support each other. It relates to GSC's mission as it is an experience that will help the community value difference and help uplift each other. It meets the organization's goals as the event will help everyone to come together to achieve Shanti -peace- and understanding amongst everyone. To give more background, the Diwali celebration includes four parts and is completely free for all attendees (including food):
* At 4:00pm, a puja (prayer) in Wheeler tent
* At 5:30pm, the lighting of 5,000 candles lining each of the paths on the Dartmouth Green
* At 6:45pm, an Indian cultural program in Alumni Hall featuring undergrad, grad, and community member
performances.
* At 8:00pm, an Indian vegetarian dinner home-cooked and donated by the Upper Valley Hindu community for all attendees
Any and all are welcome, andattendees are welcome to attend any and all parts.
