Ad-Hoc Committees

Ad-hoc committees are temporary committees formed for to address specific graduate student concerns or interests. The GSC Vice President oversees all GSC ad-hoc committees. Please see below for a list of active committees.

  • Benefits

First formed in November of 2017 and reformed in February of 2021, the Benefits Committee is an ad-hoc committee that evaluates the benefits that graduate students receive from the College. Benefits include stipends, general health care, prescription coverage, additional health care (mental health, dental, and vision care), and family benefits. Dartmouth's benefits are compared to all other Ivy+ universities to see how we are doing. The Benefits Report is a useful tool for graduate students to learn what is available to them and to address any gaps that may exist. The Benefits Report is also shared with the Guarini deans to help advocate for better benefits for graduate students. The GSC plans to make this ad hoc committee a regular structure so that the Benefits Report can be regularly updated and used for advocacy. Currently inactive.

  • Housing

The Housing Committee was formed in August of 2021 in response to the Upper Valley housing crisis and the extreme need for graduate student housing support. In the summer of 2021, the housing committee created a survey to assess graduate student housing needs and compiled the results in a Housing Report. Several graduate students have had to defer their enrollment for the Fall 2021 term because they were unable to find housing. The Housing Committee identified short-term and long-term actions to address the crisis. To help students in need of immediate housing, the committee advocated for help from Dartmouth administration, called on the Dartmouth community for housing availability, and created a pipeline to help connect unhoused graduate students with potential housing. Now that Fall term has begun, the committee will turn its attention to long term solutions to the housing crisis. The Housing Committee is currently co-chaired by Keighley Rockcliffe and Charlie Carver.

  • Alumni Representation

The Alumni Representation Committee was formed in June of 2021. Its primary purpose is to address the lack of representation for Guarini alumni in alumni spaces. This entails planning alumni events, connecting with the Guarini Alumni Relations Office, and advocate for graduate/professional student representation on the Alumni Council and Board of Trustees. The committee is currently chaired by Eva Childers. The committee is focused on instituting more “class community” by restructuring Guarini’s orientation and implementing a unifying class identifier (e.g., the incoming class of 2022 are the bears).

  • Healthcare

The Healthcare Committee was formed in January of 2022 to advocate for improved health coverage, and to address specific concerns regarding the structure and cost of the healthcare plan. The committee is currently co-chaired by Grant Molnar and Elizabeth Bien.
