Student Professional Development Support Fund
The GSC Student Professional Development Support Fund is an initiative that aims to support graduate students in their participation in conferences, professional and leadership development, and service.
Process and Procedures
Eligible Students: Applicants must be graduate or professional students currently enrolled at Dartmouth College in one of the following schools:
Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies
Thayer School of Engineering
The Dartmouth Institute
Enrollment Requirement: Students must be actively enrolled at the time the conference, workshop, or professional development opportunity occurs. Funding cannot be applied to events or expenses after a student’s graduation date.
First-Come, First-Served: Funding is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Please plan ahead—applications can be submitted up to 6 months in advance of your conference or event start date.
Application Deadline: Submit your application at least 14 days prior to the start date of your conference, workshop, or professional development opportunity to allow sufficient processing time. Applications received after this deadline will still be considered but are not guaranteed to receive the award.
Reimbursement Submission: After your event concludes, you must submit the reimbursement form along with all relevant receipts within 2 months of the last day of the conference or workshop. Requests submitted after this window may not be considered. Please note that reimbursement requests cannot be submitted before the conference or workshop has taken place.
Complete Application: Ensure all required fields are filled out and supporting documents (e.g., event agenda or registration confirmation) are attached. Incomplete applications may delay funding or result in disqualification.
Notification: Applicants will be notified of funding decisions via email within 10 business days of application submission.
Event Reporting: Recipients may be required to provide a brief summary or proof of attendance or reflection on how the funded opportunity contributed to their professional development.
Multiple Submissions: Students may apply for multiple opportunities throughout the year; however, total funding will not exceed $300 per rolling 12-month period.
Non-Transferability: Funds are awarded to the individual applicant and cannot be transferred or assigned to others.
Non-Reimbursable Expenses: When submitting for reimbursement, please note the following restrictions:
Per diem meal allowances are not reimbursable; all meals must have individual itemized receipts.
Meal receipts cannot include alcoholic beverages, in accordance with Finance Center policy.
Only meals consumed during the conference dates are reimbursable; meals during travel days are excluded per the Student Support Fund policy.
This fund does not support the purchase of items such as new computers, software licenses, or other personal equipment.
All expenses must comply with Dartmouth’s official business expense policies.
Advance Funding: This fund provides reimbursement only; advance payments are not available. Plan your finances accordingly.
Record Keeping: Students are responsible for maintaining copies of all submitted applications, receipts, and reimbursement documents for their records.
