Dartmouth Textbook Cost Survey
Dartmouth Library invites you to participate in a survey designed to help us understand student textbook costs, spending practices, and buying preferences. Your answers will inform programs designed to increase the affordability of course materials at Dartmouth. The survey is open to all Dartmouth students enrolled in the current term who are at least 18 years old. The survey consists of 17 short questions and is estimated to take 5-12 minutes to complete. Your answers will be fully anonymous. At the end of the survey you will be invited to enter a drawing to win a $20 gift card to the food co-op.
The survey is open from April 3 – June 12, 2023.
The GSC stands firmly with GOLD
In light of the recent FAQ on GOLD released by the Provost, the GSC is reiterating support for GOLD. View the entire new statement below.
Evening Shuttle
Thayer is partnering with Geisel and Guarini to offer an evening shuttle, using a 14-passenger van driven by Door-to-Door van service.
Starting on January 4, 2023, the shuttle will make three trips each weekday evening, leaving at 7:00 pm, 8:00 pm and 9:00 pm from the West End Circle. If there are students who cannot fit on the 9:00 pm shuttle and need a ride home, the driver will return to campus one last time. If this happens frequently, we will develop a pass system, where passholders will have first priority. The shuttle will not run on Saturdays and Sundays.
The route was developed based on input from students and will include the following existing Advance Transit stops.

3. Rt 120/Greensboro Rd, Hanover
4. DHMC
5. Rt 120/Heater Rd, Lebanon
6. Rt 120/Summer St, Lebanon
7. Downtown Lebanon
8. Rt 4/ Rivermill Complex, Lebanon
9. Rt 4/ Whitcomb Ave, West Lebanon
10. West Lebanon Library
11. Rt 10/ Quail Hollow, West Lebanon
12. Sachem Village Community Center
The shuttle will provide one-way travel only with passenger pick-ups at West End, Vail and DHMC only. The driver will only stop at the listed locations and will not stop at the Summit on Juniper since there is an existing evening shuttle to that facility.
GSC Statement on GOLD
The GSC has voted to release a statement of support for GOLD, the Graduate Organized Laborers of Dartmouth. In summary:
GOLD has 4 pillars: guaranteed living wage, comprehensive benefits, safe and equitable workplaces, and fairness for international student workers
The GSC’s advocacy efforts are at the mercy of administration’s willingness
If successful, GOLD will assume the responsibility for issues the GSC currently advocates for which includes items on the bargaining table, such as housing, benefits, stipends, and childcare policies
The GSC will still advocate for students
GOLD’s existence allows the GSC to focus on community building, service projects, and mental health outreach
GOLD’s and GSC’s work are complementary and supportive of each other

Why are you an Ombuds?
Sometimes it’s hard to know what to do, where to go, or who to trust. I think it’s so important for visitors to have a safe, private, and informal place to confidentially talk about an issue, concern, or problem so they’re understood in a way that’s meaningful to them. To openly share challenges or conflict unconstrained by a formal process or reporting structure is quite powerful; it helps others be seen and heard and supports a person’s ability to act on their own values and interests.
Hobby?
I came to Dartmouth with my dog Lilly, and we’re having fun discovering all the beautiful hiking trails.
What is the process of working with you?
An appointment can be made by email or telephone (you should hear back within 1-2 days to schedule a time that works for you). The office does not yet have a permanent location, so appointments can be scheduled via zoom or in person if a suitable location can be found.
Why would someone meet with you?
A graduate/professional student or post-doc can come to the Ombuds with any problem, question or concern that is impacting your time at Dartmouth. If you’re curious, conflicted, frustrated, or unsure what to do or where to go, the Ombuds office is a good place to start. If you’re in the middle of a conflict, or you feel like you’ve tried everything and there’s nothing more you can do, an Ombuds could provide insight. If you need a referral, want to understand available resources or are having trouble resolving an issue, an impartial viewpoint could help. If you’re trying to decide whether to move forward with a formal process and are unsure what will happen if you do, we can talk that through, too.

The Dartmouth shuttle bus runs seven days a week and makes several campus stops with spur service to DHMC and Summit on Juniper housing. The shuttle is not available to the public and requires a Dartmouth College ID, DHMC ID, APDMH ID, or Summit on Juniper guest pass to ride

Updated Provisional Leave
GSC Vice President Josephine Benson recently successfully advocated for updated changes to the Provisional Leave Policy. Major changes include:
Guarini will pay for one term of the student healthcare plan
Departmental deadlines must be pushed back by a period of time equivalent to the duration of the leave

Health Insurance Changes
As a result of the advocacy of the Dartmouth GSC Healthcare Committee (Elizabeth Bien, Kelly Cantwell, and Grant Molnar), the Dartmouth Student Health Group Advisory Committee has approved the following changes to the health insurance plan for the 2022-2023 academic year, which they hope to preserve in perpetuity:
The in-network deductible will be decreasing from $250/individual and $500/family to $100/individual and $200/family. The out-of-network amounts of $500/individual and $1,000/family will remain the same.
The in-network out-of-pocket maximum will be decreasing for an individual student plan from $3,000/individual to $2,500/individual. The in-network out-of-pocket maximum for a family plan and the out-of-network out-of-pocket maximums will remain the same.
The cost of insuring dependents is decreasing from $7059 for adding one dependent (plus the spouse access fee, where applicable), and $10088 for multiple dependents is to $6577 and $9759 respectively.
The in-network co-insurance will be decreasing to 10%. For the 2021-2022 academic year, plan participants are paying 20% for in-network covered services after their deductible, up to the out-of-pocket maximum. As of September 1, 2022, the DSGHP will pay 90% for in-network covered services. The out-of-network co-insurance amounts will remain the same.
The referral requirement for services in the Hanover area will be changing. This requirement will no longer be in place for all services, but only for preventative care services that are covered at 100% under the Affordable Care Act, while in the Hanover area. As is true currently, this referral requirement does not apply while out of the Hanover area.
The DSGHP Advisory Committee has also taken steps to clarify the costs of the healthcare plan on their website, and we will continue to work with them to improve healthcare services for graduate and undergraduate students in the future. Borwell Parking Permit Rate
The GSC has worked with DHMC and Dartmouth transportation services and advocated for better parking! Effective July 1st, any graduate students with a lab based at DHMC will be eligible for a Borwell parking permit at a rate of $10 a month, reduced from $35.
