Leading Edge Fellowships Applicant Webinar
In Spring 2025, ACLS will place up to 16 PhDs as Leading Edge Fellows with social justice organizations for two-year fellowships. This year, our host organizations include Amica Center for Immigrant Rights (Washington DC), Disability Rights North Carolina (Raleigh, NC), Open Communities (Evanston, IL) and more.
Leading Edge Fellowships support recent PhDs in the humanities and interpretive social sciences as they work with social justice organizations across the country. Hosting organizations provide professional development opportunities and employee benefits to fellows, and draw on fellows’ scholarly perspectives and broad set of skills. Fellows receive stipends: for remote positions, $70,000 in year one, and $72,000 in year two; for in-person positions, $72,000 in year one, and $74,000 in year two. Relocation funds are available for in-person positions. All awardees receive access to health insurance and professional development funding, mentoring, and opportunities for professional development through ACLS and our alumni network. This initiative is made possible through the support of the Mellon Foundation.
This webinar is for prospective applicants to the 2025 ACLS Leading Edge Fellowship program. Program staff will provide information on the program and about preparing a successful application. Some time will be dedicated to answering general questions about eligibility, application materials, and our selection process.

NE GWiSE Winter Retreat: Careers in Science Policy
Join us and members of New England Graduate Women in Science and Engineering (NE GWiSE) at our Winter Retreat! This is an event where we connect with members of our community and discuss career paths in the field of science policy. Come and meet graduate students (and postdocs!) from other universities as we embark on a day of learning, sharing, and networking to foster collaborations and friendships across the greater Boston area!
This year's retreat will focus on the myriad ways that people can get involved in science policy. As funding for science continues to decrease, it is important now more than ever to make our science count and strengthen the connection between academia, government policy, and the general public. We are thrilled to announce our keynote speaker, Dr. Melody Burkins, the current UArctic Chair in Science Diplomacy and Inclusion at Dartmouth and a ISC Steering Committee member of the Fourth International Arctic Research Planning Conference. Our panelists will include the keynote speaker, as well as Dr. Molly Bird, a Health Science Policy Analyst for the NIH, and Dr. Janelle Knox-Hayes, a Lister Brothers Professor of Economic Geography and Planning in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning.
